Learn Spanish in VALENCIA

Full immersion Spanish courses are offered at the Don Quijote Spanish School in the city of Valencia. The City:  Population: 900,000. Capital of the Comunidad de Valencia and third largest city in Spain.   Location: Eastern side of Spain, in the Mediterranean sea.  The province of Valencia is the largest of the three which make up the Valencian community. It is situated in the centre of the Spanish Mediterranean coastline. It overlooks the spacious Gulf of Valencia and is skirted at the back by a group of medium-high mountains and rolling plains leading to the lands of Aragon and Castile-La Mancha. It is opposite the Balearic islands and equidistant from the country's two major decision-taking centers: Madrid and Barcelona.  The city of Valencia is the administrative capital of the Valencian community and the center of the reagion of L'Horta. Sightseeing around the city begins in the old quarter. Until the mid-nineteenth century, it was defended by a wall (still standing as proof are the graceful Torres de Serranos, the spacious Torres de Quart and some remains of the apron wall in the basement of the Valencia institute of Modern Arts). The most outstanding artistic heritage is to be found in the districts of Seu and Xerea, where the marks left by the Romans lie hidden beneath Arab ruins and modern churches and palaces.   The Mercat district took shape around the commercial life of the city's inhabitants. Accordingly, its two most emblematic buildings are used for trading purposes. The Gothic building of La Lonja, declared by UNESCO as a heritage of humanity, features a beautiful columned room where the old tables on which trading transactions were finalized are still in use today. Outside the destroyed wall grew the Valencia of the bourgeoisie, with its wide pavements, broad landscaped thoroughfares and countless instances of modernist architecture. On the other side of the Turia's old riverbed lie the nursery gardens, along with the Fine Arts Museum and the ultramodern part of the city which, on account of its size, serves as a nexus between the coastal townships and the old quarter. The futuristic face of the city is mirrored on the old riverbed through the Gulliver Children's park and the leisure and culture complex., Ciutat de les Arts i de les Ciencies. Life in the city spreads down to the seafront with the harbor and the beaches of Las Arenas and La Malvarrosa.

Valencia is an ideal place to study Spanish due to its privileged location on the Mediterranean coast that ensures you the perfect climate all year round. Don Quijote Spanish School Valencia The don Quijote Valencia is located in the center of the university district, on the campus of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Set amongst hundred of acres of new academic buildings, palm trees, and rolling lawns, the school is close to a variety of sports facilities, within easy reach of the city centre and just a few minutes walk from Valencia beaches.

All group prices include: Spanish lessons as listed below, 24 hour emergency phone assistance, study and cultural advisor, welcome dinner, guided city tour, student card,  pick-up service at bus/train stations for Sunday arrivals (limited hours!), Spanish study materials and Spanish books, Spanish dancing and/or Spanish singing lessons, use of computer, video and library, Internet access with free e-mail services, use of tennis tennis rackets, and use of video tapes and cassettes (even use of a Walkman if you forget your own!). All Courses also include 5 FREE cultural Spanish lessons per week.

NEW!:  Intensive Spanish courses start EVERY Monday for all levels. Super Intensive course starts the first Monday of every month for all levels.

Accommodations  2008

Accommodations in Valencia are offered in host families (single room or double room occupancy available for students traveling together), in shared apartments and at an on-site residence. Residence:  If you are looking for comfortable, well-equipped accommodations just a quick walk from your classroom, the student residence in Valencia has what you are looking for! You’ll feel right at home in your single or double room, with separate areas for studying and relaxing, a private bathroom, air conditioning and heating, plus telephone and internet connection.
You’ll have plenty of opportunity to mix with native Spanish speakers, as well: the residence also houses Spanish university students.
Best of all, you’ll be guaranteed to make the most of your time: the residence is located right in the don Quijote school building, right in the center of the campus of the University of Valencia.  Meal plans (2 or 3 meals per day), are offered.
 

Shared room discount for family and apartment share accommodations: subtract  USD 28 per week.

Activities

A welcome dinner is offered on the beginner starting dates and a guided city walking tour is given on those dates also. One extra cultural class is offered every day covering subjects such as Gastronomy (learn how to make a Paella), Spanish History, social issues of Spain today, etc. Spanish Dancing and singing lessons are scheduled on a regular basis (not available at Don Quijote Barcelona!). Use of the multimedia room, free e-mail, videos, walkman, music tapes and tennis rackets are included in the price of the course. For those students that are interested in meeting and talking with Spaniards and exchange program is offered (however, please be aware that about half of the conversation time is expected to be done in English). A "Cultural Adaptation" counselor is available to assist students with any problems they may have adjusting to the new cultural environment.
