Full Immersion Spanish Courses in BARCELONA

Barcelona is a wonderful place to learn Spanish.  A sophisticated city with style, allure and an unbelievable number of things to see and do. It lies at the foot of Mount Montjuic where the famous Mies van de Rohe Pavilion is found as well as the Pueblo Español, a Spanish village in which the houses, streets and squares are representative of all of Spain. "Downtown" in the city, culture lovers can get their fill of paintings by famous artists such as Picasso and Miro among others. Or, they can visit the many architectural wonders which the famous architect Gaudi created around the city. The old part of the city, known as the "Barrio Gotico", with its old city walls, narrow streets and beautiful monuments, is well worth a visit. During the evening a stroll along the elegant boulevard Las Ramblas is an experience not soon to be forgotten. And do not forget the alluring Mediterranean sea, which always invites you for a refreshing dip. Barcelona is a metropolis where you will quickly feel at home. There is also plenty to do around Barcelona: nearby mountain ranges (Montserrat, Sierra Montseny and a little further away the Pyrennes) are quiet, green and dotted with picturesque villages. For the beach lovers: Arenys del Mar in the Costa Brava and Sitges with it's famous whitewashed houses in the Costa Dorada, offer plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sun and the sea within easy reach of the city. Barcelona is the capital of Catalunya so you will also have a chance to experience the culture and cuisine of this wonderful region.

Don Quijote Spanish Language School

Don Quijote has been offering Spanish language courses for over 15 years and operates several Spanish language schools across Spain including programs at their centers located in Salamanca, Barcelona and Granada. Additional Don Quijote schools are located in Seville, Madrid, Valencia and Tenerife (please contact us by e-mail or phone for information on Spanish language courses at these destinations).   All the schools are centrally located, and the same teaching method is used by all. Don Quijote emphasizes the practical use of the language. Even if you are a complete beginner, you will learn to communicate very quickly, as classes are taught entirely in Spanish. Teachers are highly skilled in teaching foreigners. Authentic study materials such as newspaper articles and videos are incorporated into the classes. The school never exceeds 8 students per group, thus allowing teachers to give personal attention to each student.

It is possible to combine Spanish language courses in the don Quijote schools, for example, beginning a 4-week course in Salamanca, and ending it in Granada. This way, you can get to explore and experience different areas of Spain, and make your Spanish language study trip even more exciting!!

The Barcelona Spanish School

The school has 65 spacious classrooms all with windows and balconies. The ground floor is dedicated to the teachers' room, multimedia classroom, a central meeting and recreational area where you can watch TV, read the newspapers, have coffee with your fellow students or do your homework. There is also a   magnificent roof terrace available for student use.

All group prices include: Spanish lessons as listed below, 24 hour emergency phone assistance, study and cultural advisor, welcome dinner, guided city tour, student card,  pick-up service at bus/train stations for Sunday arrivals (limited hours!), Spanish study materials and Spanish books, Spanish dancing and/or Spanish singing lessons, use of computer, video and library, Internet access with free e-mail services, use of tennis tennis rackets, and use of video tapes and cassettes (even use of a Walkman if you forget your own!). All Courses also include 5 FREE cultural Spanish lessons per week.

NEW for 2008!:   Executive Premium Spanish Courses  - Executive Spanish courses are available at Don Quijote Barcelona, Don Quijote Salamanca and Don Quijote Tenerife.  Spanish Courses consist of group lessons in a mini-group of 4 students per class maximum, with additional one-to-one Spanish lessons per day if desired. Courses start any Monday. Prices include all items listed above under "Spanish Courses" plus lessons as listed below. Accommodations  2008

Don Quijote offers accommodations in host families, shared apartments and at their on-premises residence.  The residence, which opened in 2002, has 25 rooms as well as 24-hour security guard service, 95 % of the rooms have private bathrooms. You may prepare your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, electric coffee makers and refrigerators). It also has a dining room, living room (smoking and non-smoking) with TV, video and stereo, as well as washing and drying machines.

Shared room discount for family and apartment share accommodations: subtract  USD 28 per week.

*Laundry service is included in host family pricing.

New for 2008!  Executive Host Families.  Executive host families offering single room and private bathroom are available at Don Quijote Barcelona.  Prices include internet access, linen, towels, laundry and daily cleaning.

Transfers:  Free transfers are available from Barcelona train stations on Sundays (specific times apply!).  Airport transfers are available AT ADDITIONAL COST:  USD 120 one-way.  Students may use taxis or buses to reach the city.

Activities

A welcome dinner is offered on the beginner starting dates and a guided city walking tour is given on those dates also. One extra cultural class is offered every day covering subjects such as Gastronomy (learn how to make a Paella), Spanish History, social issues of Spain today, etc. Use of the multimedia room, free e-mail, videos, walkman, music tapes and tennis rackets are included in the price of the course. For those students that are interested in meeting and talking with Spaniards and exchange program is offered (however, please be aware that about half of the conversation time is expected to be done in English). A "Cultural Adaptation" counselor is available to assist students with any problems they may have adjusting to the new cultural environment.
