Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, is situated on the north-east coast of Spain. Its vibrant cosmopolitan population and economic importance make it one of the most dynamic cities on the Mediterranean.

Barcelona is also a center of international cultural interest, housing works by artists such as Picasso, Gaudí and Miró. Port Aventura, the second most visited theme park in Europe, is situated near Barcelona, within easy reach by car, bus or train.

ABC Language Center

abc is a large language school which was founded in 1991, specializing in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. The school also offers English language courses to local residents and Spanish classes to foreign students visiting the city.  The quality of their courses has enabled them to become one of the most prestigious language schools in Barcelona in a very short time.

abc is an Accredited Center by the Instituto Cervantes, is a member of FIYTO (Federation of International Youth Travel Organizations) and IALC (International Association of Language Centers) and their Spanish as a Second Language courses are recognized and accredited by the Universidad de Alcalá.

abc is located in a modern six-story building, custom-built to guarantee effective and comfortable language learning.  All the classrooms are fully air-conditioned and equipped with audio-visual facilities (TV, video and cassette).  The school also has a large projection/conference hall and a computer center with internet access, as well as a penthouse terrace with panoramic views of Barcelona.

abc is situated in the city center, near Plaza Molina, well connected by major subway and bus routes to the rest of the city.

The  Courses are divided according to level of ability, ranging from beginners to superior.  The key feature of these courses is continuity, allowing students to extend their courses over the number of weeks required, starting any Monday. Absolute beginners must start on one of the specific dates as indicated below.

The classes have an average of 8 students of all nationalities, and are limited to a maximum of 12 students, to encourage optimum interaction between students and teacher.

The curriculum is carefully compiled and coordinated by the Director of Studies. The program is constantly revised and updated and can be adapted to meet the specific needs of a particular group of students.  Students cover all the writing, reading, speaking and listening skills necessary for precise communication. Not only are they introduced to formal language structures, but also stimulated to use them in a variety of real life situations.  Before moving up to a higher level, students are required to take an exam in order to evaluate their progress.

 Spanish Language Programs 2008:

Minimum age: 18.  Classes are 45 minutes each. All prices include number of lessons per week as indicated below, placement test, certificate of completion and internet access at the school (30 minutes each week!)

Starting dates 2008:

Intermediate and advanced students may start any Monday. Complete beginners MUST start on the dates listed below:

Holidays 2008:  1 January, 21 March, 24 March, 1 May, 12 May, 24 June,  15 August, 11 September, 24 September, 8 December. The school will be closed between 24 and 28 December 2008.  Classes lost due to National Holidays are NOT made up.

Other Courses:

Language and Culture Spanish Course:  Course of 25 lessons per week, divided into 20 group language lessons (intermediate to superior levels only) and 5 cultural lessons. The cultural lessons aim to provide a broad vision of 20th century Spain through history, art, literature, film and customs, as well as defining aspects of contemporary Spanish life.   2 weeks: USD 674,  4 weeks: USD 1300.  Starting dates for Spanish and Culture 2008:  3 March,  2 June, 6 October.

One-to-One Spanish Courses: Available year round. Start any Monday.  10 private lessons per week:  1 week:  USD 767,   Extra weeks: USD 624 per week.    20 private lessons per week: 1 weeks: USD 1,341,   Extra weeks: USD 1,150 per week.   Starts any Monday

Accommodations  2008

abc offers accommodations in host families, shared apartments and at a student residence located close to the school: 

• All host families are selected by abc and are near or within easy reach (bus, subway) of the school.
  All students are accommodated in single rooms. 
• Apartments are shared with other students and frequently with the owner. Single rooms. The kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc. are shared.
• Student Residence: Small residence (8 to 16 students) offering TV, telephone and a pleasant relaxed atmosphere, situated very near the school. Single or double rooms. Shared bathrooms. Microwave and fridge available. No kitchen nor laundry facilities available!. There are many cafes and cheap restaurants in the area.
• NEW: Executive shared apartments.  Located 3 minutes walking distance to the school. Each apartment has three bedrooms and each bedroom has a private bathroom. Fully equipped kitchen. Weekly cleaning provided.

* Apartment share requires a refundable deposit of 150 Euros upon arrival!.

Airport Transfer:  from Barcelona Airport available upon request and at additional cost of USD 144 one-way.  

Activities

abc offers a complimentary program of social activities to make students' stay in Barcelona as enjoyable as possible.  The program includes weekly cultural activities, films, excursions, a sample of Barcelona's night life, etc.
Transport, entrance fees and meals during school arranged activities are not included in the price of the course, students pay for these charges directly.  Students may also join a local sports club at special discounted rates.
