Milan is the second largest city in Italy and the country's main business center. It is a cosmopolitan city where you will find people from every region of Italy and from many countries of the world. Built in the IV Century BC by Celtic tribes and conquered by the Roman Empire the city was later ruled by several different cultures such as the Spanish, the French and the Austrian Empire before finally being incorporated into the Italian Reign in the late XIX century. At this time Milan experienced a marked industrial growth that continues to this day when it has become of of Europe's main financial centers, home of all major banks and the most important Stock Exchange in Italy. Unfairly considered of minor importance in the historical and artistic fields, Milan is a city where ancient times meet the modern age: in Milan you can see the Castello Sforzesco, the Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci, the Duomo (third largest in the world), the Galleria Vittorio Emanuel II, the world famous Opera House La Scala but you can also walk around the modern shops of the "Fashion District" where all the best known fashion houses have their boutiques. During the evenings you can enjoy a fantastic "aperitivo" in one of the hundreds of bars and cafes in Navigli, an area with a large concentration of art studios and cafes next to the city's canal.

The Scuola Leonardo da Vinci is located inside a student campus in the Navigli area. It is well connected to the center of town via subway and bus service. All classrooms are air conditioned, and the campus has a park and a bar/cafeteria. They offer Italian language courses for all levels.

The Leonardo da Vinci schools teaches the Italian language according to the Direct Method: from the first day on, at all levels, only Italian will be spoken in class. The spoken language is the most important part of the tuition. Continually promoting the use of verbal communication permits you to learn Italian "naturally", to unite theory with practice with greater ease and to increase your knowledge quickly and with confidence. In advanced courses greater emphasis is given to the written language.

The Italian teaching staff consists of young teams of experienced Italian language teachers, all of whom studied at the University and who have been specially trained in teaching Italian to foreigners.

Most of the teaching materials have been developed by the school and are continually updated using the most recent foreign language research.

But teaching Italian does not consist, for the staff at the Leonardo da Vinci schools, in just teaching grammar and vocabulary. They want to allow their students to gain insight into the Italian way of life and culture. This is why they offer, in addition to the Italian language courses, a whole range of optional activities to their students.

Italian Language Programs 2008:

All courses: minimum age 16. Each lesson is 45 minutes. Prices include: placement test, assessment and final tests, Italian lessons as specified below, teaching materials (basic course material for Art courses), free internet access, certificate of attendance and student card.

Standard Italian Group Course - (12 students maximum per class). 20 Italian language lessons per week. 4 week minimum. Prices: 4 weeks: USD 1,070. Extra week: USD 239. Long Term: 12 weeks: USD 2,507.

Intensive Italian PLUS 5 Group Course - (12 students Max. in group class). 20 Italian language lessons per week of Standard morning group classes PLUS 5 hours a week private instruction in the afternoon. Prices: 2 weeks: USD 1,149. 3 weeks: USD 1,668. 4 weeks: USD 2,187.

Holiday Italian Language Course - Short version of the standard course, 20 Italian language lessons per week. (12 students max per group). Prices: 2 weeks: USD 591. 3 weeks: USD 830. 4 weeks USD 1,070.

Holidays 2008: School is closed on 24 March, 25 April, 1 May, 2 June, 24 June, 15 August, 8 December. The school will be closed from 13 December 2008 until 4 January 2009.

Accommodation Prices 2008:

The following prices are provided for budgeting purposes only. Payment for accommodations is done directly to the host family / landlord upon arrival in local currency.

Host Family - Single room / half board. 2 weeks: From USD 623 to USD 733 depending on location.

Host Family - Single room / breakfast. 2 weeks: From USD 415 to USD 488 depending on location.

Apartment share *. No meals, single room, kitchen privileges. 2 weeks: From USD 415 to USD 488. Extra weeks: USD 224 to USD 263.

* Important Note: a refundable deposit of 100 Euros is required for all apartment accommodations. This deposit is refunded upon departure. Any verifiable damage caused by the student will be deducted from the deposit.

Airport Transfers: Available upon request at additional cost. Transfer from Milan Malpensa airport: USD 192 each way. Transfer from Milan Linate airport: USD 113 each way.

Activities

Every month the school offers and activity program which includes a number of varied outings and get-togethers including museum and gallery visits, dinners, dancing and excursions . Some activities are offered free of charge while others involve a nominal fee. A welcome party and a tour of the city is arranged at the beginning of each monthly session. Optional weekend excursions are also arranged at reasonable cost.
