SAINT MALO (Brittany)Saint Malo, "Cite des Corsaires," will leave you spellbound. Almost entirely surrounded by water, the Saint-Malo stronghold has always been a renowned port. Once an independent republic, Saint-Malo reached its heyday in the 16th to 18th centuries. The ramparts were built in the 13th century, but the history of the city goes back to at least the 11th century. The Citadel and the shipbuilding industry have ensured its prestige throughout the centuries. From the ramparts one has exceptional views of the sea. The ramparts and narrow streets of the Ville Close (the walled city) are lined with 17th century-style houses. Although it is impossible to tell by looking at them, almost all the buildings were rebuilt after World War II.
Centre d'Etudes des Langues (C.E.L.)C.E.L. Saint Malo is located near the town center. The school was founded by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Brest together with the University of Western Brittany (during the summer months, in conjunction with the Chamber de Commerce et d'Industrie de Saint-Malo). The school has 15 classrooms, language lab, library, student lounge, computer room, cafeteria and tennis and volley-ball courts. IMPORTANT NOTE: The school in St. Malo WILL NOT be offering courses in 2010. Please visit our French Courses in France webpage for other locations offered in France. |
