Spanish Courses in Almuñecar, Spain

Full immersion Spanish courses are offered in the town of Almuñecar, a small town located in the Granada portion of the Costa del Sol  – also known as the Costa Tropical – 52 miles from the city of Granada and 57 from Malaga, two towns with good communication networks. Its economy is based on agriculture, fishing and tourism. Historically speaking, it has been home to Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs until the arrival of Christians. There are still traces of these cultures in the town, the most representative being El Castillo de San Miguel (San Miguel Castle), a fortress used by the Arabs in their time, and the ancient Acueducto Romano (Roman Aqueduct), still in use. A visit to the Museo Arqueologico de Almuñecar is one way of tracing the history of Spain.

Almuñecar also has several miles of beach, which attracts many tourists. It has a hotel/hostal network in accordance with its size, with a large variety of services of all types, allowing a pleasant stay and moderate prices, when you consider that this area welcomes mainly Spanish visitors.

To sum it all up, Almuñecar is a mosaic of elements of history and modernity, leisure time and culture, giving a typically Spanish character to the town.  When it comes to the weather, Almuñecar is located in the Tropic of Europe. Its geographical location and its good weather (average temperatures of 29º C in summer and 18º C in winter) serve to illustrate this fact. The Tropical Valley surrounds the town and in it can be found plantations of custard apples, avocados, mangos and babaco, all of which can only be produced in this area of Spain.

Excellent location to learn Spanish during your Winter Vacation!

Instituto Mediterraneo Sol

Instituto Mediterráneo Sol–Almuñecar, can be found in Plaza Fabriquilla, in the town center, 100 yards  from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento (City Hall).

Instituto Mediterraneo Sol is a small Spanish school with 5 classrooms (all equipped with TV's, video and DVD players), a library with Spanish titles including videos and DVDs, and a computer room with free internet access. The language teachers in IMSOL have superior degrees in Philology in addition to their teaching training certificate (CAP). Special subject teachers have degrees in their respective specialties (Business Spanish, Literature, etc.). Each student will have at least two teachers during the course. The teaching staff is coordinated by the Head of the Institute. In addition to their teaching duties, all their staff is available to help you in any way or to provide you with any information you may require.

The teaching will be carried out entirely in Spanish using direct methods and looking for mental association between the concept and the corresponding words in Spanish. Vocabulary and grammar are learnt using situations which will help to be understood.
We emphasize the continual practice in written and spoken language. There will be various exercises to practice different grammar structures, dictations, essays, reading with special attention to phonetics, and free or controlled conversation in Spanish. All these exercises will be checked by the teachers
