Learn Spanish in Antigua, Guatemala |
Antigua, meaning old or ancient, was once the capital of Guatemala and the Central American Republic. A forty-five minute drive from Guatemala City, Antigua sits at the feet of three volcanoes in Guatemala's Western Highlands. Antigua boasts some of the country's best architecture, the arch of Santa Catarina in the center of town being the most popular and photographed tourist attraction. |

A powerful earthquake shook the city in 1773, crumbling most of the churches and government buildings, leaving ruins that stand today as testament to the town's colonial past. The capital was moved from Antigua to Guatemala City after the earthquake. With a population of 40,000, Antigua is home to an estimated 70 Spanish
language schools, attracting a large population of tourists and travelers seeking Spanish
lessons every year. Because of all the competition, Antigua offers the best bargain
for language students in all of Central America. The temperature is mild, usually
60s and 70s during the day, but can drop down to the mid-40s at night. Rainy
season runs from May through October. Lingua Service Worldwide works with 5 language schools in Antigua, Guatemala.
